Pearson VUE exam on Linux inside a Windows VM
To take an exam using Pearson VUE on a Linux-based computer, several things are needed.
Since the OnVUE application is not compatible with Linux, a Windows VM is required.
Prerequisites are:
- QEMU virt-manager to be able to forward the camera / webcam and display the VM in fullscreen
- A VM with Windows 11 or newer
- Installed KVM guest tools inside the Windows guest VM
- Working sound inside the VM
- Working camera / webcam inside the VM
The following steps are needed to take an exam using Pearson VUE on a computer running on Linux:
- Close all applications and windows on the Linux host
- Disable automatic Sleep after X time (can lead to issues)
- Disable display turnoff after X time (can lead to issues)
- Start & open a Windows QEMU virtual machine
- USB Redirect the camera / webcam of the computer
- Fullscreen
- Close all apps inside VM
- Open the browser and navigate to the system test or exam link
- Start the system test / exam!
